Artist Biography of Cornelius von der Heyden
Cornelius von der Heyden – Biography Cornelius von der Heyden received his musical education from 1982 to 1994 with the Regensburger Domspatzen (Regensburg Cathedral Choir) under Georg Ratzinger, the brother of Pope Benedict XVI. He later studied German Studies, Geography, and Classical Voice at the University of Regensburg, earning both the State Examination and a Master of Arts degree. He became director of the PMIO Vocal Institute in Regensburg and also taught at the Abraxas Musical Academy in Munich.
Beginning in 2003, he performed leading roles in successful musical productions such as Salzsaga, Jesus, Elisabeth, Freude, Wir, and Franziskus. As a vocalist with the Klaus Ammann Orchestra, accompanied by Orazio Ragonesi, he appeared in 2007 with legendary entertainers Johannes Heesters and Hugo Strasser at the Deutsches Theater and the Bayerischer Hof in Munich. He also became the artistic director and lead singer of the group Die Bergkameraden, which he founded in 2007. The group subsequently signed a recording contract with Koch Universal. Achievements
2009: International runner-up at the Grand Prix of Folk Music in Munich together with Oswald Sattler and Die Bergkameraden.
2010: Third place at the Grand Prix of Folk Music in Vienna. In the same year, his band Red Roses won the South Tyrol Alpine Grand Prix in Merano, Italy.
2011: Awarded the Herbert Roth Prize by Germany’s MDR broadcasting network with Die Bergkameraden. With the group he gave numerous international concerts and appeared in more than 50 television broadcasts, including on ARD, ZDF, BR, MDR, ORF (Austria), SF (Switzerland), and RAI (Italy).

In 2015, together with composer, producer, and keyboardist Orazio Ragonesi—who had previously worked with Jessy Garon, Bill Courtney, Stevie Wonder, and Al Jarreau—he made his debut as a singer-songwriter performing his own original songs. This led to concert tours in the United States and the Netherlands, television productions in Switzerland, Austria, and the Czech Republic, and appearances on programs including:

In 2016, Hessischer Rundfunk (HR4) featured their song “Lichter am Horizont” (Lights on the Horizon) on the program Gude, Servus und Hallo. At the 67th Sudeten German Convention in Nuremberg, held under the patronage of the Minister-President of Bavaria, they presented the song “Heimatland” (Homeland), which they had specially composed as the soundtrack for the documentary film of the same name by Edwin Bude.
In 2017, as performers, composers, and lyricists, they reached the finals of the international Stauferkrone Schlager Competition with their song “Zeitenwende” (Turning Point). Later that year, their classical crossover project together with former members of the Regensburger Domspatzen, along with the premiere of the Christmas album “Wunder-Welt-Weihnacht” (Wonderful World Christmas), took them on a concert tour of the United States.
In 2025 Cornelius joined together with an International songwriting team (Madeleine Davis, Jens Christensen, Evelin Vordermeier) in writing the song “Lachen Sollte Jedes Herz”, an emotionally inspiring song for world peace, which was performed at the Stauferkrone 2026, the largest Schlager song competition in Donzdorf Germany, achieving 4th place.
